Zoanthids are an order of cnidarians commonly found in coral reefs, the deep sea and many other marine environments around the world. These animals come in a variety of different colonizing formations and in numerous colours.
Palythoa and Zoanthus species can contain a highly toxic and potentially lethal chemical compound known as palytoxin (PTX). PTX exposure is mostly associated with inhalation of vapours during cleaning, fragging, breaking down an aquarium or removing corals next to Palythoa and Zoanthus.
